On Feb. 1, Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) and Dignity Health officially came together as CommonSpirit Health. After nearly two years of planning, our bold and ambitious journey to create the health system of the future has begun.
CHI and Dignity Health have, for many years, delivered compassionate care and healing to communities across the country. Founded by women religious, both ministries have a proud legacy of serving all people in need, especially those who've been made vulnerable by poverty, age, or other circumstances.
But today, our communities face greater health challenges than ever before. Meeting those challenges—by creating real change in our society – will require more resources, talent, expertise, investment, and influence than ever before. These resources will be found in our remarkable new ministry: CommonSpirit Health. Watch a video
that shares more about the potential of our new ministry.
By any measure, CommonSpirit Health is one of the nation's largest health systems. More than 150,000 employees and volunteers. Hundreds of hospitals and care centers across 21 states. Thousands of physicians. Millions of patients treated annually. Billions of dollars in charity care and community benefits.
But with CommonSpirit Health, the whole will be much greater than the sum of its parts.
Together, we can help to redefine the health care landscape.
CHI and Dignity Health employees will see no immediate changes – current compensation, health benefits, PTO, earned pension, and retirement benefits will stay the same. And, current names for market-based facilities and services will stay the same.
Most important, our grounding as a mission-driven, values-based ministry will never change. Nor will our calling to serve the common good.

|Clarification around the Branding, How it Impacts CHI Saint Joseph Health:
The above news about the new CommonSpirit Health ministry has generated some questions regarding our recent local rebranding announcement of CHI Saint Joseph Health.
This announcement does not change our new brand as CHI Saint Joseph Health. CHI and Dignity have previously shared that CommonSpirit Health will primarily be used as a national name for corporate level presence and communication. All local CHI (such as CHI Saint Joseph Health) and Dignity brands will remain the same for the foreseeable future.
The Saint Joseph (and Flaget) name carries tremendous trust and history in our communities, both to our employees/providers, and our patients. We will continue to use CHI Saint Joseph Health exclusively for our ministry. For additional information on how to use our brand, please visit the CHI Saint Joseph Health brand center. Finally, for clarification on how the CommonSpirit Health name/logo will be used, please review the Q&A.
