CHI Saint Joseph Health
Patients have a right to privacy of all the protected health information (PHI) that they share with us. Our electronic medical records (EMRs) contain much of this PHI. We may be allowed access to the system as part of our roles; however, just because we can access doesn’t always mean we should. Any access to PHI must be job related. Accessing PHI without a job reason, or snooping, is a violation of HIPAA and will result in disciplinary actions.
Also, remember to guard your password to these systems and to log out. You are accountable for all accesses made under your password. Let’s protect PHI! Contact your local Corporate Responsibility or Privacy Officer if you have questions.
